Speco Thomas has been in business for over 50 years.
It began when Eddie Thomas, a well-known speedway driver and later pioneer drag racer, started grinding camshafts in his home garage.
In 1956, Eddie Thomas had bought a South Australian business — Bob William’s Speed Equipment Company, known as Speco.
In 1968, Brian Sampson bought Eddie Thomas Speed Shop, and changed the name to Speco Thomas in 1969. Brian was the founder of Motor Improvements, a specialist engine reconditioner and the source of Speco Blueprint camshafts. Motor Improvements operated in St Kilda until it relocated in November 2007 to new premises in Cheltenham.
