Motorbike crankcase repairs in an instant

No doubt anyone who has had a motorbike has at one time or another dropped it, especially dirt bikes, if you’re lucky there’s no more than a scratch but otherwise it could cost you a new crankcase.

No doubt anyone who has had a motorbike has at one time or another dropped it, especially dirt bikes, if you’re lucky there’s no more than a scratch but otherwise it could cost you a new crankcase.

Whether it’s your own bike or a customer bike everyone wants three things: a good job, a quick job and an inexpensive job.

Tracking down a new crankcase costs time, and it’s often an expensive part to replace. But there is a product that will do all three things perfectly: JB Weld Original Cold Weld Formula Reinforced Epoxy.

In most cases welding a crankcase in the traditional way is not an option especially while it is still on the bike as they are generally alloy and contaminated by oil – that’s another reason JB Weld is such a good alternative and permanent repair option.

Using JB Weld Cold Weld is easy and quick but it is important to follow the steps outlined in the instructions to ensure its longevity. One of the most important things is to thoroughly clean the area and sand it, removing any rust, grease or debris to ensure a good surface bond.

Then the two-part JB Weld Cold Weld is mixed to the correct ratio before applying it to the area and carefully filling in any cracks in the metal. At room temperature, J-B Weld sets in 4-6 hours to a dark grey colour and it is fully cured within 15-24 hours.

JB Weld has a tensile strength of 3960 PSI and sets to a hard bond overnight and it can withstand temperatures up to 287ºC. When fully cured, J-B Weld can be drilled, formed, ground, tapped, machined, sanded, and painted.

There are a host of other JB Weld products also available to fill the needs of a motorcycle repair shop including Black Silicone RTV for glass or rubber, and cork or paper seals, Red Hi-Temp, Blue RTV for water pumps and thermostats and Ultimate Copper.

JB Weld has 57 products in the range from epoxies, putty sticks, silicones, thread lockers and repair kits that cover a huge number of applications in a workshop.

What is so convenient for workshops is that most JB Weld products come in small packages that don’t take up valuable real estate on workshop shelves, but they can get you out of trouble when an unexpected problem is found.

JB Weld has built its fine reputation on manufacturing high quality products that are found in every trade workshop.

HPP Lunds is the Australian distributor for JB Weld with products available from leading automotive Stores, trade enquiries can be made direct to HPP Lunds.
